Having a dedicated training centre in the merry seaside town of Morecambe means we can partner with other training providers to bring you an even wider choice of courses. The latest provider to get dates scheduled is Massage for Dementia, run by Nicolle Mitchell.
There are three key reasons why a course titled "Massaging Persons Living with Dementia" caught my eye (me being Tigger, 4Elements Co-Founder).
Checking out the Massage for Dementia website and connecting with Nicolle direct made it all the clearer: this was a course I wanted to help publicise and make available from 4Elements HQ!
So how did it all come about?
When an opportunity arose for Nicolle to treat persons living with dementia, she wanted to develop her knowledge to support them fully. Finding no courses in her field she took the bold and generous step of developing the award winning “Massaging Persons Living with Dementia” course, the first course of its kind in the UK. The hours of research, training and development that have gone into developing this and subsequent courses really isn't reflected in that last sentence - it sounds so easy! Yet these are extremely considered, well researched, prepared, and beautifully delivered courses.
Nicolle has practiced massage in Cornwall since 1998, committed to making the benefits of her holistic approach to massage and well-being available to all. She has worked therapeutically with children, young people and people with additional needs for over 30 years, specialising in the field of dementia and taking a special interest in trauma.
Alongside her training and therapy work, she delivers talks, seminars, workshops and presentations, particularly in her specialist field of dementia and regularly advises colleagues in her specialisms.
Further, she offers integrated massage treatments to individuals with dementia in her community, incorporating aromatherapy and other creative therapeutic approaches. Her dedication to learning ensures she delivers her services with passion, keeping her approach fresh, exciting, and accessible. Outside of her professional life, Nicolle finds joy in her young food forest in Cornwall, where she experiments with growing perennial edibles and herbs for “meadowcine,” all while increasing biodiversity. She embraces the permaculture principles “Earth care, People Care, Fair Share,” which align with her values and infuse every aspect of her life.
